Article III. DOG ISLAND CONSERVATION DISTRICT |
§ 17-58. Board generally; members; election.
(a)
The governing body of the district shall be the Dog Island Conservation Board consisting of five (5) directors, each of whom shall be a citizen of the United States and the owner of the fee simple title to real estate located in the district. The original members of the board shall be Samuel E. Teague, Ernest Berger, Otis O. Wragg, Francis N. Millett, Jr., and LeRoy Collins.
(b)
Those seats on the board to which Francis N. Millett, Jr. and LeRoy Collins are appointed under the provisions of paragraph [1] shall be filled by election beginning September 1, 1975. Those seats on the board to which Samuel E. Teague, Otis O. Wragg, and Ernest Berger are appointed under the provisions of paragraph [1] shall be filled by election beginning September 1, 1976. The members of the board shall serve for a term of two (2) years and until the election and qualification of their successors. The board shall formulate procedures whereby all residents and all freeholders of property in the district as indicated upon the county tax rolls may participate in the election of the members of the board by mail.
(c)
The first meeting of the board under this act [this article] shall be held in the month of June[,] 1975, for the purpose of arranging for the election of two (2) members to terms commencing on September 1, 1975. If for any reason such first meeting cannot be held in June[,] 1975, then such meeting shall be held as soon as possible thereafter.
