Article II. CREATION OF DISTRICTS |
§ 17-24. Special elections.
(a)
Special elections may be held when called by the board of commissioners who shall publish a notice of time and place of holding said election once a week for four (4) weeks prior to any such election, therein specifying the general nature of said election. Said publication shall be in some newspaper having a general circulation in said district.
(b)
In all elections upon a referendum to adopt, ratify or reject any resolution of the board of commissioners, or for the ratification or rejection of any bond issue as provided herein, or for any other purpose wherein an election may be called by the board of commissioners, the board of commissioners shall furnish one (1) polling place in each precinct; provided, however, that in those cases where an election or referendum is called which affects one (1) particular area of the district, as set forth in the resolution, which area is less than a precinct, then the board of commissioners shall furnish one (1) polling place for such area.
(c)
It shall be the duty of the board of commissioners to canvass all such elections immediately and to declare the results thereof.
